JOHN PAUL II

"That day under the Snow"

In the summer of 1979, during his holiday in the mountains, Pope John Paul II was immortalized by the world’s press on the summit of the Marmolada wearing a Conte of Florence down hat. The event was determined purely by chance – the beautiful mid-August day gave way to a heavy snow storm, and one of the hats that had been given to children on the occasion of the papal visit was offered to the Holy Father, who accepted it without a second thought for strict protocol.
